What you can and can't compost
When it comes to composting, there are some basic rules about
what you should and shouldn't put in your compost heap:
Can
- Vegetable and fruit peelings
- Paper and cardboard (shredded)
- Small prunings
- Flowers, grass clippings and leaves
- Egg shells (crushed)
- Used potting mix
- Tea bags and coffee grounds
- Wood ash (layer)
Can't
- Meat and bones
- Dairy products
- Large branches
- Diseased plants and weeds
- Magazines and bleached paper
- Pet droppings
