Why compost?

Composting is an easy solution to the mountains of waste generated by foodstuffs. By taking this small but significant step in your own home you can start making a difference to the environment and your wallet.

Improve your soil

If you have poor soil, such as sandy or clay soil, compost is one of the best soil additives available. And if you make your own - it doesn't cost you a penny!

Save money

Save money by composting at home. This will help to reduce your reliance on expensive fertilisers and garden foods. To get you started, you can purchase compost bins quite cheaply from a number of different retailers. Some councils also subsidise compost bins for their local ratepayers.

Small gardens and balconies

Composting can be done in a large or small garden.

If you are short on space, worm farms can be housed on shaded balconies. You'll find that the worm castings are great for your pot plants. Bokashi buckets are another alternative for balconies or small courtyards.
